Holly & Jason--Seattle--4-18-10

If you live in the Seattle area, then you'll probably know how very fortunate Holly and Jason were to have perfect spring weather for their wedding day. The sun was shining, Mt. Rainier AND Mt. Baker were visible, and not a drop of rain. Who would have guessed it is April? Good thing, too, since the couple had an outdoor ceremony.

A particularly fun part of today was seeing Caitlin in action, working those mad hairstyling skills. Wow, is she awesome! She did a fabulous number on Holly's up-do. Caitlin (and her fiance Jeff) are getting married in August of this year. I felt warm and fuzzy when I saw one of their engagement photos on her workstation. I am pretty sure it was my shot, but ask Jody and he'd say it was his. :-)

Sarah & Max--Fort Lewis--April 17, 2010
Sarah & Max--Fort Lewis--April 17, 2010

Every wedding day that I wake up to an overcast sky, I just smile and know it is going to be an awesome portrait day. Bright blue skies and lush green grass are very pretty for some shots, but I love portraits on a cloudy day. Sarah and Max had an afternoon ceremony inside a gorgeous chapel on the Fort Lewis army base, and when we were heading over to McChord air force base for the reception, Jody and I spotted these tanks. I mean, how often do we get to do some bridal shots with a TANK? We did a quick about-face and found the couple before they'd driven off too far. I SOOOO had this photo in my mind, all edited and cool, before Sarah was even in position, and it turned out exactly as I'd envisioned.

Just as we were finishing up, it started to rain...then it poured, and we didn't care since the portraits were all finished.

Their reception was intimate and included a couple of fun newlywed-style games as well as a traditional Korean ceremony.

Now I am going to snuggle on the sofa with Jody and watch a movie. We have another fantastic wedding to shoot tomorrow. I am pretty sure there won't be any tanks, but that's ok. Creativity on-the-fly is what we're all about.--Jen (& Jody)

Katie & John--Engagement Session

We did an engagement session for Katie & John in Bellevue at a shopping center this evening. I am really starting to like shooting at places like this, ever since our family session in Texas with Emilie, Brian & Boston (see March blog post). There are so many uncommon angles such as shooting from above not to mention the funky colors of doors, walls, storefronts, etc. Check out the last two photos of this post. The first is a shot Jody took of me, and the very last one is the end result from my perspective.

Looking forward to Katie & John's trendy Georgetown wedding in just a couple of weeks!

We love using open doors as natural framing for a photo of the bride, especially when her dress is the right type to allow light through.

Never thought of the open door frame as a spot for the photo of the groom, but this turned out pretty cool.

Carissa grew up in this St. Louis Lutheran church. It was recently renovated, but several areas were left as-is. I was very attracted to this spiral staircase with rope that leads to the bell tower and the old door frame just outside the choir loft.

One of our favorites of all time, this image of Rick & Meenu was shot at Newcastle Golf Club pre-blog. I am currently designing a sample book at the request of Newcastle for this wedding. Indian weddings are a perfect fit for our style since we love saturated colors and interesting textures.

Look closely, and you can see the rain just starting to fall.
Christine & Mark--Engagement Session

We received an email from Travis at True Colors Events (www.truecolorsevents.com) the morning of this shoot asking if we would prefer to move the session indoors closer to Mark's work at Microsoft. (We love Travis and Jesse at True Colors...they are always on the ball!)

Seeing as how we love natural light, we decided to rough it (so long as Christine and Mark were game). So glad we did! The cold wind didn't stop us at Golden Gardens. We are looking forward to their wedding at the Woodmark Hotel in June. --Jen (and Jody)

Carissa & Richard, St. Louis Peace Arch--April 2010. So excited to have shot in St. Louis, Missouri early this month. Gorgeous weather, easy-going couple, and a state we've never shot in before. Yes! --Jen
